On Monday, 16 November, eleven men dressed in an Indian army uniform were arrested by the Assam Police near Guwahati's Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport after failing to produce any valid identification. It was confirmed that the police detained them when they found that their actions were highly suspicious. The Patrol Duty Police Group on Monday night arrested four people wearing army uniforms from near the airport. It was noticed on verification that they were not permitted to wear the uniform and had subsequent reasons, said a police statement released on Tuesday. In the high-security region, the police have not yet discovered the motive behind their movement, it was confirmed.
Under several stringent provisions of the IPC (Indian Penal Code), the police registered a case. Guwahati Joint Police Commissioner Debraj Upadhayay told media that the police had discovered that these eleven individuals had been staying in the city for a month. "First a patrol team picked up four men in military fatigue, who later led them to seven more the reports said. Dhriman Krishna Goswami, Kaushik Bhuyan, Jhenendra Das, Ganesh Das, Nayan Jyoti Gautam, Joymoni Sharma, Bijoymoni Sharma, Dwijen Sarma, Rupam Sharma, Saurav Sarma and Ripunjoy Goswami have been identified as the defendants. As per the initial investigation, it was claimed that one of the arrested men, Dhriman Goswami, had supposedly given the other fake letters of appointment to a security firm.
