Disha -SC Appoints Commission On Encounter

The Supreme Court of India has appointed a commission to look into the allegations on the encounter of the four accused in lady doctor Disha's rape and murder in Hyderabad. Based on several petitions filed by Mumbai based lawyers, the Supreme has initiated a commission and six months time is allotted to probe the case.

This commission will be led by former Supreme court judge VS Sirpurkar and will have retired Bombay HC judge Rekha Baldota, and former CBI Director Kartikeyan. The Apex court left the decision to the commission from which date and day they want to start the investigation. From the commencement date, the commission has to submit the report to the Supreme in next six months.

Also the Supreme has issued a stay on the probes that are going on in this case. The National Human Rights Commission and the Special Investigation Team (SIT) appointed by the Telangana government are already probing this encounter episode.

Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi argued before the Supreme Court. "The Telangana government is not against the Supreme's intervention but already a SIT is investigation it and so there is no need for a probe with retired judge," said Mukul. However the Supreme Court did not convinced.

"The court isn't saying the government has done wrong. But the investigation details are coming out and media is constantly reporting them. In order to maintain a transparency and as the people have all the right to know the facts, we are initiating a commission," said chief justice Sharad Arvind Bobde.

On the other hand, the two membered team of NHRC has wrapped up its enquiry and flew to Delhi. They will be submitting the report to NHRC but with fresh Supreme Court orders, the details may not come out.
