Congress veteran, former Chief Minister of  J&K (2005–2008)  Ghulam Nabi Azad gave a farewell speech in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, who will retire from the Upper House on the 15th of this month.

Addressing the House, the MP said he was among the fortunate people who have never been to Pakistan. Reading about circumstances in Pakistan, I feel proud of being an Indian Muslim, he said.

In the farewell speech, he recollected his memories of addressing the first public meeting in the position of Chief Minister. He mentioned his remarks that his government would be there for the people. I would feel ashamed if any of my party leaders provide justice on the grounds of religion, caste, and political party, he said.

The Rajya Sabha credited former Prime Minister late Indira Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi in his speech and credited them for his career. He said, because of them, he stood here.

He received a heartwarming welcome from the leaders across the parties. Several leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi showered praises on him for showing care for the country as well as the party.

Narendra Modi turned emotional during Azad's farewell. He remembered the terrorist attack in J&K. He said he will never forget the efforts of Shri Azad and  Shri Pranab Mukherjee in helping him when some people from Gujarat were stuck in J&k.

During the farewell, Narendra Modi became so emotional that, he had tears in his eyes. Unable to gather words to talk about the farewell, Narendra Modi saluted him with an emotional face.
