To mark Mahatma Gandhi's 151st birth anniversary, Dubai's iconic Burj Khalifa lit up in the tricolours, featuring his pictures. The video of the illuminated structure began making rounds on the internet, much to the delight of the world's Indians. Located in the United Arab Emirates, the world's tallest building celebrated the special occasion with a special LED display to honour Gandhi's journey in India's fight for independence. It also highlighted some of his famous quotes. Sketches of Bapu spinning a charkha were projected on the 165-storey tower with the message 'The future depends on what you do today'.
A special cultural programme with the theme 'Relevance of the message of Gandhi in the 21st century' was also organised by the Consulate General of India in Dubai, which ended with a special light show at the Burj Khalifa. “Immortal words spoken by Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the entire nation of India," the official handle wrote online while posting the clip of the light show, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Along with the case, a cleanliness drive was also organised by the consulate officials at the mission premises. With the help of the Indian community, to mark the occasion, 151 trees were planted on various sites. Because of Covid-19, the annual debate for students, held under the auspices of the GEMS Our Own Indian School task, was organised online. There were also essay writing and drawing contests for students.
