History Repeats After 20 Years France World Cup

Scripting history, France has beaten Croatia to walk away with the 21st FIFA World Cup (2018). While France has scored 4 goals, Croatia confined to 2 goals. This is France’s second World Cup whilst the first being in 1998.

Interestingly, France had won their first FIFA World Cup with Deschamps as captain in 1998, and it repeated the history by bagging their second World Cup trophy with Deschamps as its manager exactly 20 years later.

The match opened with a goal by France which had given it a clear lead over Croatia. Mario Mandzukic from France has scored the first ever own goal in a World Cup final creating history. Mario headed a free-kick into his own net in the 18th minute but Croatia had pulled level through a strike from Ivan Perisic in the 28th minute.

Antoine Griezmann converted a penalty in the 38th minute to regain France’s lead which was further increased to 3-1 by Paul Pogba in the 59th minute.

Kylian Mbappe (65th) made it 4-1 before Mandzukic pounced on a blunder from goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to reduce the difference to two in the 69th minute, giving some hope to Croatia. But the third goal from Croatia never arrived as the talented French side sealed a deserving triumph.
